Topic: Bonding Singapore and Managing International Relations
You are to:
(1) Work in groups to gather information
(2) Debate on the assigned topic with viewpoints substantiated by evidence
(3) Construct explanation well
Instructions:
I. An issue and the stand to take in relation to the issue will be assigned to your group.
The two positions in a debate are the affirmative and the negative. The affirmative or "pro" side in a debate argues in favor of something while the negative or "con" side argues against something.
The topics are:
1. Developing common space is the most effective way to bond Singaporeans together.

2. Threats from external forces are the most challenging problem Singapore faces.
Pro - Aqilah, Sharmeela, Chee Jin, Long Cheng Con - Rusydiah, Elizabeth, Daryl, Yu Jie
3. Economic progress is the most important reason why we need to manage ethnic diverstity.
Pro -Hanifah, Siti, Henry, Imran Con - Anira, Sri, Jamshik, Zhixiong
4.The Government should allocate more budget to the development of the defence industry than to education.
Pro - Jocelyn, Evy, Xiong Ya, Afiq Con - Vivian, QiuTong, Yazid, Nazri
5. Deterrance is more effective than diplomacy.
Pro - Chong Wei, Ken, Lionel, Tian Ting Con -Jun Wei, Soloman, Chuang Ming, Zahirah
II. Your group should arrange for consultation sessions with your Social Studies teacher. Each group is limited to 2 sessions of not more than 15 minutes for each session. Consultation sessions will start in the week of 14 July 2009.
III. In your group, you will prepare the arguments to support your stand. You will submit a summary of your arguments to your Social Studies teacher.
IV. As part of the requirement for your research, you are to refer to your textbook and 2 other sources which can be
a. Any relevant books in the library
b. Newspaper or/and magazine articles
c. Oral or written interviews
d. Internet sources
A bibliography should be included at the end of your summary.
V. The summary of your arguments must be submitted by 21 July 2009. A softcopy of it must also be uploaded to asknlearn by 21 July 2009, 2359hrs. Late submission will be penalised.

As for Geography:
Please remember to complete your Geography Project and hand in when school reopens!
Deadline - 29 June 2009.
Project Task:
To submit a 5 min video clip based on the river journey from the source to the mouth.
You must also submit a short writeup with the synopsis (the content of your video) as well as credits given to your group members and the list of reference for your video.
You can refer to this video clip http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AjZLAw_lgZ4 which is a similar project done by a group of students.You might want to make use of Window Movie maker which is available on your computer. Just compile your pictures, video and music.
